The Helath, Nutrition & Pharma Division of ANFACO-CECOPESCA offers its experience in applied biotechnology to obtain ingredients and improved food products at nutritional and functional level, to specifically target a population or palliate certain pathologies. It also offers scientific support to develop healthy foods using the most leading technologies. The experts of this Division also design and develop preclinical intervention studies in animal and coordinates clinical studies in collaboration with hospitals.
ANFACO-CECOPESCA promotes the development of R&D projects at both national and international level for the knowledge generation that later can be introduced in the industrial sector. It plays an essential role as a revitalising agent in the business innovation in the sea and food sector towards R&D&I, providing companies with the necessary tools to face the execution of R&D projects developed inside the companies themselves, supporting them both in research development and project management. At the same time, ANFACO-CECOPESCA is a national technology centre whose main objectives are promoting the quality, research and technological development in the field of marine and food products as well as the transference.
The Helath, Nutrition & Pharma Division of ANFACO-CECOPESCA offers its technical and scientific support on these topics:
• Extraction of bioactive compounds and development of bioactive ingredients, functional foods and diets adapted to people with specific pathologies and nutritional needs: active ageing, food allergies, metabolic syndrome etc… (solid-liquid extraction, microwave, supercritic, ultrasounds, spry-dry, FPLC, etc…)
• Chemical and functional characterization of extracts or ingredients. In vitro assays of biofunctionality (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, antidiabetic, antiosteoporotic, prebiotic) and digestibility, and ex vivo evaluation of bioavailability of nutrients and functional ingredients (Ussin Chamber)
